Few people would believe that the curmudgeonly Claire McKinley secretly had super powers, and even fewer would believe she’d actually use them to help people. During her day job as a chef, she dishes out sarcasm and scathing insults more often than she dishes out…well, dishes, and she nurses a smoking habit just to keep her sanity among her idiot coworkers. At night, however, she becomes her pyrokinetic alter-ego, Flambé
, and serves up sweet karma on a silver platter to the forces of extreme douchieness.
Claire’s powers manifested back when she was just a rambunctious kid. Shortly after she set off a bunch of fireworks covered in “supernatural watchamacallit”
, she found she could create fire in various shapes and forms with the palms of her hands. As it would with any obnoxious, sugar-high nine-year-old, this discovery sparked a fascination with burning things. This pyromania would last until her mid-teens (luckily without any fatalities along the way). At that time, Claire decided to quit using her powers and stop setting things ablaze cold turkey.
When she became a bitter adult and got an extremely stressful job, she began to fall off the “set stuff on fire”
wagon. After fighting off an attempted robbery using her powers, she discovered that torching bad guys was not only very fulfilling, but also a great form of stress relief. She invented the Flambé persona shortly thereafter, and the rest is history.
My entry in
's create-a-superhero contest based on her webcomic, Acting Out (which you really should be reading if you're not already: [link]
) I had a lot of fun putting this character together and planning out her backstory. I'd like to thank Casper for making it happen!
Also, I pretty much stole
's fire style ( [link]
) so thanks to him too. XD
